A knowledge of the injustices of the past and the reasons for their occurrence is vital to the development of a liberal conscience.
Samuel and Hannah Tutson were up from slavery. Born in captivity in the antebellum world of chains and whips, they both survived what the head-strong Hannah called the ‘‘red times’’ of slavery.
